This is a copy of a family register. The reason why this is required when applying for a passport is to confirm the applicant's nationality. The family registry system requires all Japanese to register such things as their names, dates of birth, and parental kinship. For example, when a couple get married and register their marriage, a new family register is made, and if children are born, they are entered on it. Family registers are administered by the municipal or ward office where one's permanent address is registered. (88words)

4.　戸籍には、氏名･生年月日･本籍･父母の氏名等が記載されている。
5.　通常、戸籍は家族(夫婦と未婚の子)を単位としてまとめられる。
